Crisis Intervention Team Training Support

The CIT Training is a partnership between NAMI Wake, Alliance Behavioral Health, and Wake Tech, in which law enforcement officers are taught de-escalation and support techniques to assist an individual in crisis. Volunteers are needed to share their story and assist with snacks during the week-long training.

 

NAMI In Our Own Voice Presenter

In Our Own Voice is a unique public education program in which trained speakers share compelling personal stories about living with a mental illness and achieving recovery.

Requirements:

  • 2 year commitment
  • Good communication skills
  • Willingness to learn and follow presentation model
  • Comfort speaking to a wide variety of audiences

 

NAMI Ending the Silence Presenter

Ending the Silence is a 50-minute class intended for high school students in which they learn about mental illnesses and the signs and symptoms. Trained young adult speakers share their personal stories of being a young adult who is doing well in recovery.

Requirements:

  • Age 18-26, living with a mental illness and living well in recovery
  • 2 year commitment
  • Good communication skills
  • Willingness to learn and follow presentation model
  • Comfort speaking to a large audience of young people

 

Awareness Advocate

Write letters to the Editor, meet with elected officials and communicate NAMI Wake County’s mental health policy platform to the general public.

Requirements:

  • Complete NAMI Wake Volunteer Application and NAMI Smarts training on sharing your story
  • Work with the Advocacy Committee to vocalize priorities
