NAMI aims to support individuals with a mental illness and their family members to provide resources to prevent a crisis. Unfortunately, it is a reality for many of our families and many in the community. If you currently find yourself in one of these situations, we hope that you are able to use these resources to navigate it successfully.
The Navigating a Mental Health Crisis guide created by NAMI in April 2018 overviews practices that could help in the following situations:
- Warning signs and preparing for a mental health crisis
- What to do if you expect someone is thinking of suicide
- What to do in a mental health crisis
- What to expect from mental health treatment
- Advocating for treatment
There are also many organizations in the community working hard to assist you when you are in an emergency.
